Read more about Ben
Ben joined the Green Party more than 10 years ago and has previously been a county council candidate in North West Leicestershire and Loughborough.
He got involved with the party due to being frustrated with the exploitation by both government and big business on so many different levels (of people, resources etc) and felt that the Green party offered the best political solution to this.

Sofie Sjogersten
Leake & Ruddington
Read more about Sofie
I have lived in the Leake and Ruddington ward for 20 years. My children has been through the local schools and I enjoy being part of the local community. To me caring about the natural world is central both in my personal life and at work. I have been part of our local biodiversity group which care for our local woodlands, plant more trees and wild flowers.
I enjoy the village traditions and organise apple pressing and play music at the village show. I work at the University of Nottingham as a Professor in Environmental Science.
At work I teach and research about climate change and sustainable ecosystems. In my work I quantify climate change impacts on important ecosystems like the Arctic tundra and the rainforests in the tropics but also on UK farming. I work to understand how we can protect the ecosystems we rely on and how we can produce food more sustainably as the climate changes. I want a future where people and nature are valued in our local areas.

“I have lived in Upper Saxondale, Radcliffe on Trent for 14 years and feel extremely fortunate to be raising two children here. My day job, which I am very passionate about, is Business Development and Communications for a local brain injury support and rehabilitation charity, Headway Nottingham, which provides day services for Nottingham city and Nottinghamshire County Adult Social Care departments. Prior to that I was a Fundraiser for a national disability charity, and worked for Children and Families Social Care for the City Council. It is imperative to me that local politics is representative of the interests of the community in every decision taken, and I am proud to stand as a Green Party candidate, putting people and planet first, before big business and party donors.”

Ben moved to the area in 2003 and is raising his family in the district. Ben served on Rushcliffe Borough Council from 2019-23 as councillor for Lutterell ward.
He is passionate about his local area and spends rather too much time reporting potholes and being bothered by the queue for the tip and overflowing park bins.

Margret Vince
Arnold North
Read more about Margret
Arnold is a great place to live and work, and I have enjoyed living here for over twenty years now. It is convenient for various country parks and nature reserves. I particularly enjoy Bestwood Country Park, where I am chair of the Friends group. If elected, my primary concern would be with policies to move Nottingham towards net zero and preserve the biodiversity of the county. Arnold has a relatively high proportion of people on low incomes, and I would also hope to address this by promoting community projects that help with redistribution of resources, and over the longer term, through the creation of jobs in the green energy sector.

Jim Stuart
Arnold North

I have enjoyed living in Arnold for over twenty years. It has the advantage of a good bus service into Nottingham as well as a number of pleasant green spaces such as the Hobbucks nature reserve. If elected, I will campaign to protect and improve Arnold’s green spaces as well as campaigning for cheap and regular bus services both into Nottingham and into the countryside to the north and east of Arnold. As a county councillor I would campaign for a written Climate and Nature Impact Assessment document to accompany every policy initiative the council puts forward, so Nottinghamshire becomes a leading example of good practice in the move towards net zero for carbon emissions as well as maintaining and improving the biodiversity of the natural environment.

“I am honoured to represent the Green Party as the candidate for Arnold South in the upcoming county council elections. As a long-time Nottingham resident, I am dedicated to advocating for the positive change our community needs.
With a background in adult education and system development, along with experience as a sound engineer, I prioritise fairness, sustainability, and people over politics. I will fight to protect our green spaces, support local services, and ensure our streets are safe and clean.
Arnold South deserves a councillor who listens and delivers real solutions to issues like the rising cost of living and the climate crisis. If elected, I promise to amplify your voice and work tirelessly for our community’s future.
Let’s build a greener, fairer Arnold South together!”

Read more about William
Will has lived and worked as a Civil Servant in Nottingham for over 32 years. He was a Public and Commercial Services Union rep for nearly 8 years, 2016-2024, including one year as elected Branch Chair.
He has an adult daughter, stepson, son, and is a cat dad to a young ginger Maine Coone tomcat, all of whom were born and bred in Nottingham. He was Treasurer of Edwalton pre-school for two years, when his human children were there.
More recently he is serving as the Humanist UK rep on the Nottinghamshire Standing Advisory Committee for RE (SACRE) since Covid 19, and is now also a member of Nottingham city SACRE.
As if that wasn’t enough, Will has enjoyed singing as a tenor in Lady Bay community choir for what many years and years.
As a Nottinghamshire resident and voter he shares the concerns we all have about the quality and efficiency of local services: transport, social care, education. We all want improvements in service delivery and accessibility. Unsurprisingly, he shares our growing concerns to do what is locally possible to do about climate chaos prevention, mitigation, and adaption. We cannot afford the high costs of failing to invest in this.
